Let \(G\) be an abelian group and let \( a_1,a_2,\dots,a_k \in G \) be nonzero elements and \(p_1,p_2,\dots,p_k \) positive numbers. The author looks for non-negative solutions \( \varphi: G\rightarrow \mathbb{R} \) of the difference equations \[ \varphi(x)= \sum\limits_{i=1}^k p_i\varphi(x+a_i). \] The main concerns of the paper is how to improve the regularity of non-negative solutions of the equation in the case when \( G \) is a locally compact abelian group. Interesting arguments are presented using well-known results from the literature.
