The present paper solves an infinitesimal version of a question of \textit{E. Gutkin} [``Billiard tables of constant width and dynamical characterizations of the circle'', in: Proceedings of the Pennsylvania State workshop. College Park, PA: Pennsylvania State University (1993)] about smooth, convex oriented closed curves. These curves are called Gutkin curves. Contact angles of such curves are investigated and the question of Gutkin is generalized and settled in the setting of hyperbolic spaces.
