      Summary: For the almost Mathieu operator \[ (H_{\lambda,\alpha,\theta}u)_n=u_{n+1}+u_{n-1}+2\lambda \cos 2\pi(\theta+n\alpha)u_n, \] \textit{S.\,Ya.\thinspace Jitomirskaya} [in: Proceedings of the XIth international congress on mathematical physics, Paris, France, July 18--23, 1994. Cambridge, MA: International Press. 373--382 (1995; Zbl 1052.82539)] conjectured that, for a.e.\ \(\theta\), \(H_{\lambda,\alpha,\theta}\) satisfies Anderson localization if \(|\lambda|>e^\beta\). \textit{A.\,Avila} and \textit{S.\,Jitomirskaya} [Ann.\ Math.\ (2) 170, No.~1, 303--342 (2009; Zbl 1166.47031)] verify this for \(|{\lambda}| > e^{{\frac{16}{9}}{\beta}}\). In the present paper, we extend their result to the regime \( |{\lambda}| > e^{\frac{3}{2} {\beta}}\).
