The authors consider the Anderson model on a strip. Its affinity with the random band matrix model is exploited [\textit{J. Schenker}, Commun. Math. Phys. 290, No. 3, 1065--1097 (2009; Zbl 1179.82079)]. In the latter case, a polynomial bound for the localization length has been established. For the Anderson model an exponential bound has been previously deduced for potentials with a bounded density [\textit{J. Bourgain}, J. Stat. Phys. 153, No. 1, 1--9 (2013; Zbl 1432.82016)]. A combination of the two previous approaches is adopted presently and an explicit estimate for the localization length is obtained via lower bounds for the fluctuations of the Green's function. The admitted potentials have a bounded density with considerable tails. The lower bound for the fluctuations of the logarithm of the Green's function in a finite box implies an effective exponential estimate \(\exp (CW)^2\) for the Anderson model on the strip with width \(W\). The obtained results extend to a more general model with a non-local operator in the vertical direction.
