The authors state a result on the number of real zeros for the random linear combinations of rather general functions. It originated from the papers of \textit{M. Kac} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 49, 314--320 (1943; Zbl 0060.28602); Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (2) 50, 390--408 (1948; Zbl 0033.14702)], who used the monomial basis, and was extended to trigonometric polynomials and other bases by \textit{K. Farahmand} [Topics in random polynomials. Harlow: Addison Wesley Longman (1998; Zbl 0949.60010)] and \textit{M. Das} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 27, 147--153 (1971; Zbl 0212.49401); Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 64, 721--729 (1968; Zbl 0169.48902)]. The authors are particularly interested in the bases of orthonormal polynomials, which was the case considered by [Zbl 0169.48902].
