Let \(K,L\) be locally compact spaces and let \(X\) be a Banach space. Let \(C_0(K,X)\) denote the space of \(X\)-valued continuous functions, vanishing at infinity, defined on \(K\). An important area of investigation, now popularly called Amir-Cambern-type results, is to consider, for an isomorphism \(T:C_0(K,X) \rightarrow C_0(L,X)\), a bound for \(\|T\|\|T^{-1}\|\) that will imply that \(K\) and \(L\) are homeomorphic. After doing a nice survey of earlier results in this direction, the authors introduce a new parameter, \(\lambda(X) = \inf\{\max\{\|x_1 + \lambda x_2\|:|\lambda|=1\}: \|x_1\|=1=\|x_2\|\}\). When \(X\) is a real or complex reflexive Banach space with \(\lambda(X)>1\), then \(\lambda(X) \leq BS(X)\), where \(BS(X)\) is the largest bound for the validity of the Amir-Cambern-type conclusion.
