    Spherically symmetric motions of a gaseous star governed by the Euler-Poisson equations can be reduced to the equation \[ \frac{\partial^2y}{\partial t^2}-\frac1{\rho r}(1+y)^2\frac{\partial}{\partial r}\left(PG\left(y,r\frac{\partial y}{\partial r}\right) \right)+\frac1{\rho r}\frac{d P}{dr}H(y)=0,\eqno(1) \] where \(P=\rho^\gamma/\gamma\), \((1+y)^{-2\gamma}(1+y+v)^{-\gamma}=1-G(y,v)\), \(H(y)=(1+y)^{2}-(1+y)^{-2}\). Let \(\dfrac{\partial^2y}{\partial t^2}+\mathcal Ly=0\) be the linearized equation, where \[ \mathcal L=-\frac1{\rho r^4}\frac{\partial}{\partial r}\left(\gamma r^4P\frac{\partial y}{\partial r}\right)+ \frac1{\rho r}(4-3\gamma)\frac{d P}{dr}y. \] A solution \(y_1\) of the linearized equation is fixed and a solution of (1) is seeking in the form \(y=\varepsilon y_1+\varepsilon w\), where \(\varepsilon\) is a small positive parameter. Theorem 1: Assume that \(6/5<\gamma\leq 2\) and \(\gamma/(\gamma-1)\) is an integer. Then for any given \(T>0\) there is a sufficiently small positive \(\varepsilon_0=\varepsilon_0(T)\) such that, for \(|\varepsilon|\leq\varepsilon_0\), there is a solution \(w\in C^\infty([0,T]\times[0,R])\) of the equation \[ \frac{\partial^2w}{\partial t^2}+\left(1+\varepsilon a\left(t,r,w,r\frac{\partial w}{\partial r},\varepsilon\right)\right)\mathcal{L}w+ \varepsilon b\left(t,r,w,r\frac{\partial w}{\partial r},\varepsilon\right)=\varepsilon c(t,r,\varepsilon) \] (functions \(a\), \(b\), \(c\) are explicitly defined) such that \(\sup\limits_{j+k\leq n}\big\|\dfrac{\partial^{j+k}w}{\partial t^j\partial t^k}\big\|_{L^\infty}\leq C_n\varepsilon\), or a solution \(y\in C^\infty([0,T]\times[0,R])\) of (1) of the form \(y(t,r)=\varepsilon y_1(t,r)+O(\varepsilon^2)\). The time-local existence of smooth solutions of Cauchy problems is also investigated in Theorem 2.
