In this paper the authors consider the linearized model of a Timoshenko beam slowly rotating in a horizontal plane. The left end of the beam is clamped to the disk of a driving motor. The authors construct the optimal control for a slowly rotating Timoshenko beam and also show that the presented approximation converges to the optimal solution with essentially faster speed than the one obtained by the classical truncation method. Moreover, using special periodicity properties of the family of functions appearing in the approximated moment problem, the authors present a method of reducing the system of an infinite number of equations to the equivalent Kramer system of a finite number of equations.
