The purpose of this paper is to study the damped compressible Euler equations (ref.{l}), a system of two nonlinear PDE for the fluid density function and the fluid velocity as functions of \(t,x\). The main result of the paper is that for certain data (the couple \((\sigma, r)\), and a constant density), there exists a unique global solution of the Cauchy problem (ref.{l}). Furthermore, the global solution satisfies an energy inequality for constants independent of the relaxation time. The proofs use weak convergence method, Aubin-Lions compactness lemma, Littlewood-Paley decomposition, Bony's decomposition, tempered distributions, boot-strap argument, Plancherel's theorem, Shizuta-Kawashima lemma, Young's and Minkowski's inequalities.
