The book under review provides a full discussion of our present-day understanding of quantum theory and describes important mathematical techniques. The development of quantum science since 1920 was the greatest advance in physics, though its principles are so contrary to ordinary intuition that physicists still feel confronted by concepts like entanglement, complementarity, decoherence, quantum jumps, and violation of Bell's inequality. Feynman once expressed his experience by saying: nobody really understands quantum physics. Blanchard and Fröhlich, the editors of this book, organized a number of workshops and seminars at the Bielefeld University with the goal to gather theorists and experimentalists for reviewing the present state of understanding quantum science. The resulting book presents 15 chapters written by distinguished physicists starting with a remarkable foreword by Serge Haroche from Collège de France explaining the history of many fierce debates and his personal experience. He combines his exceptional physical insight with his gift for a concise introduction to a modern understanding of quantum science. No doubt, the book is a useful reference for researchers.
