Crossed modules are classical objects of study in modern (algebraic) topology. It is well-known that the category of crossed modules is equivalent to the category of group-groupoids (i.e., the category of \(\mathcal G\)-groupoids). The article in question is a study of the concepts of normality and quotients in these two categories, along the mentioned equivalence. More or less detailed treatments of these fundamental notions can be found scattered around in the literature, or in the collective consciousness in the form of folklore knowledge. The article gives a detailed treatment of normality and quotients in the formalisms of crossed modules and group-groupoids, leading up to the first isomorphism theorem. The article re-affirms the expected fact that there are no surprises along the path to achieving these results.
