The author considers the discretization by time-stepping \(hp\)-versions discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods for the fractional subdiffusion problems of order \(-\alpha\) with \(-1 <\alpha< 0\). After proving stability of the approximate solution, some error estimates are derived. For \(h\)-version DG approximations on appropriate graded meshes near \(t = 0\), the author proves that the error is of order \(k^{\max(2,p)+ \frac{\alpha}{2} }\), where \(k\) is the mesh size of the time discretization and \(p\geq 1\) is the uniform degree of the DG solution. For \(hp\)-version DG approximations, exponential rates of convergence in the number of temporal degrees of freedom are shown. Some numerical tests are presented to demonstrate the validity of the achieved error estimates.
