The authors give a detailed proof of two results announced in their paper [ibid. 303, No. 2, 555--589 (2011; Zbl 1220.46044)] and supplement it. An example of a factorizable map \(T\in \mathcal{B}(M_n(\mathbb {C}))\) without the asymptotic quantum Birkhoff property is provided, where \(T\) is a unitary completely positive trace preserving map being a Schur multiplier. Also, the Connes problem, whether any finite von Neumann algebra on a separable Hilbert space embeds into the ultrapower of the hyperfinite \(\mathrm{II}_{1}\)-factor, turns out to be equivalent to asymptotic vanishing of the completely bounded distance \(d_{cb}(T\otimes S_k, \mathrm{conv}(\mathrm{Aut}(M_n(\mathbb {C})\otimes M_k(\mathbb {C})))\) as \(k\to \infty\). Here, \(S_k\) is the completely depolarizing channel, \(S_k(x) = k^{-1}\mathrm {Tr}_k(x)\), \(x\in M_k(\mathbb {C})\). Moreover, extending the analysis of \textit{C. B. Mendl} and \textit{M. M. Wolf} [ibid. 289, No. 3, 1057--1086 (2009; Zbl 1167.81011)], an interesting representation of the average of all unitary transforms of a CP map of \(M_n(\mathbb {C})\) is obtained in terms of the Holevo-Werner channels \(W_n^{+}, W_n^{-}\). For such channels and convex combinations thereof, the facorizability and asymptotic properties are studied.
