Basic algebras were introduced [in \textit{I. Chajda} et al., Acta Sci. Math. 71, No. 1-2, 19-33 (2005; Zbl 1099.06006)] as a common generalization of MV-algebras and orthomodular lattices. Now the authors prove that any infinite cardinal is the cardinality of some dense subdirectly irreducible linear basic algebra. This result assumes the Generalized Continuum Hypothesis and it is not known if it holds without this assumption. It also an open problem whether the basic algebra can be chosen commutative. Using this result, they characterize the order types of linear basic algebras.
