When considering a smooth projective \(K3\) surface \(S\) over a field \(k\) and the subalgebra \(R(S^n)\) of the Chow ring CH\((S^n)\) generated by divisor classes of \(S\) and the diagonal class on \(S\times S\), the following conjecture was stated by Voisin: \smallskip \noindent { Conjecture.} For \(n\geq 1\) the restriction of the cycle class map cl: \({\text{CH}(S^n)} \rightarrow H(S^n)\) to \(R(S^n)\) is injective. The case \(n=1\) has been proven in [\textit{A. Beauville} and \textit{C. Voisin}, J. Algebr. Geom. 13, No. 3, 417--426 (2004; Zbl 1069.14006)] while Voisin proved the conjecture for \(n\leq 2b_{tr}+1\) where \(b_{tr}=22-\rho\) is the rank of the trascendental part of \(H^2(S)\). Moreover, it is known that the conjecure implies finite-dimensionality of the surface in the sense of Kimura-O'Sullivan. The present paper show a converse result: \smallskip \noindent { Theorem.} The conjecture holds for a surfaces \(S\) if and only if \(S\) is finite-dimensional. In order to prove the result, the author shows that in the hypotesis of finite-dimensionality, he obtains all relations of cl\((R(S^n))\).
