Let \(V = \bigoplus_{n=0}^\infty V_n\) be a vertex operator algebra over the real field \(\mathbb{R}\) with a positive definite invariant bilinear form. Assume that \(\dim V_0 = 1\) and \(V_1 = 0\). Then the weight \(2\) subspace \(V_2\) has a structure of a commutative non-associative algebra called the Griess algebra of \(V\). An Ising vector is an element of \(V_2\) which generates a simple Virasoro vertex operator algebra of central charge \(1/2\). The subalgebra of a Griess algebra generated by two Ising vectors is classified by \textit{S. Sakuma} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2007, No. 9, Article ID rnm030, 19 p. (2007; Zbl 1138.17013)], which is exactly isomorphic to the Griess algebras of the nine vertex operator algebras \(U_{nX}\), \(nX = 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 4B, 2B, 3C\) studied by \textit{C. H. Lam} et al. [IMRP, Int. Math. Res. Pap. 2005, No. 3, 117--181 (2005; Zbl 1082.17015); Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 359, No. 9, 4107--4123 (2007; Zbl 1139.17011)]. In the paper under review, the authors study the subalgebra of the Griess algebra generated by two pairs of Ising vectors such that each pair generates a vertex operator algebra isomorphic to \(U_{3A}\) and their intersection contains the \(W_3\) algebra of central charge \(4/5\). It is shown that the subalgebra is isomorphic to the Griess algebra of one of the three vertex operator algebras constructed by \textit{G. Höhn} et al. [Commun. Math. Phys. 310, No. 2, 329--365 (2012; Zbl 1258.17023)].
