A quasitoric manifold over a simple polytope \(P\) is a \(2n\)-dimensional manifold with an action of an \(n\)-dimensional torus \(T^n\). The action is assumed to be locally standard and the orbit space of the action is assumed to be homeomorphic to \(P\) as a manifold with corners. Quasitoric manifolds were introduced in [\textit{M. Davis} and \textit{T. Januszkiewicz}, Duke Math. J. 62, No. 2, 417--451 (1991; Zbl 0733.52006)] as a topological generalization of nonsingular projective toric varieties. Let \(C^n(m)\) be the cyclic \(n\)-polytope with \(m\) vertices, and let \(C^n(m)^\ast\) denote the polytope dual to \(C^n(m)\). The author studies quasitoric manifolds and small covers over dual cyclic polytopes. He shows that if \(n\geq 4\) and \(m-n\geq 4\), or \(n\geq 6\) and \(m-n \geq 3\), then there is no small cover over \(C^n(m)^\ast\). It follows that for these values of \(n\) and \(m\), there exist no quasitoric manifolds over \(C^n(m)^\ast\). He then gives a topological classification for quasitoric manifolds over \(C^n(n+3)^\ast\), for \(n=3,4,5\). This classification result yields a partial affirmative answer to the cohomological rigidity problem for quasitoric manifolds over dual cyclic polytopes. Quasitoric manifolds over the product of two simplices were classified in [\textit{S. Choi}, \textit{S. Park} and \textit{D. Y. Suh}, Pac. J. Math. 256, No. 1, 19--49 (2012; Zbl 1247.57022)]. The classification of quasitoric manifolds over \(C^3(m)^\ast\) for \(m\geq 7\) remains open.
