Let \(H=H^{2}({\mathbb D})\) be the Hardy space on the unit disk \({\mathbb D}\subset {\mathbb C}\). Let \({\mathcal M}\subset H\otimes {\mathbb C}^{N}\) (\(N \geq 2\)) be an invariant subspace for the operator \(M_{z}\otimes I\), where \(M_{z}\) is the multiplication operator on \(H\) by the independent variable and \(I\) is the identity operator on \({\mathbb C}^{N}\). This space is called a graph invariant subspace if there exist a nonzero linear manifold \(D\subset H\) and linear operators \(T_{k}: D\to H\), \(1\leq k \leq N-1\), not necessarily bounded, such that \( {\mathcal M} = \{ (f,T_{1}f,T_{2}f,\dots,T_{N-1}f): f\in D \} \). In this case, \(D\) is called an invariant domain. There is obtained a Beurling-type characterization of invariant domains and there are found some algebraic properties of these domains. The paper also contains a discussion of some related problems.
