This short paper is a very nice overview article about the recent results in the theory of the incompressible Euler equations, especially about the so-called Onsager conjecture, and older results connected with isometric embedding problem and a technique used in the proof, the so-called convex integration, connected with names as Nash, Gromov of Kuiper. The authors first explain these classical results and then connect them to the Euler equations and problems of turbulence. The Onsager conjecture deals with the question whether or not the weak solutions to the Euler equations conserve the kinetic energy. The critical regularity is \(L^\infty((0,T); C^{\frac 13})\). More regular solution in the space variable conserve the kinetic energy (the original conjecture has been rigorously proved in the paper by Eyink) while for the lower regularity in the space variable the results are not yet complete. However, for slightly less spatial regularity, weak solutions which do not fulfill energy inequality were constructed by Buckmaster and the authors of this paper.
