The authors introduce a definition of summability for formal power series with controlled growth in their coefficients, in the general framework of strongly regular Carleman ultraholomorphic classes in plane sectors. Roughly speaking, the strongly regular case, which encompasses the classical Gevrey \(k\)-summability of Ramis, corresponds to those Carleman classes for which there is a Whitney extension theorem, although the article does not rely on this result. Here, a crucial step is the recent construction by \textit{J. Sanz} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 415, No. 2, 623--643 (2014; Zbl 1308.30051)] of flat ultraholomorphic functions via proximate orders. This allows the authors to define suitable kernels, and to extend accordingly the Laplace and Borel transforms used in the Gevrey theory. A satisfactory extension of the notion of summability can then be derived. A study of the summability properties of the formal solutions to some moment-partial differential equations is given as an application.
