The authors consider a system of \(N\) spins \(s_i=\{\pm\}\), \(i=1,2,\dots,N \), whose state is specified by the configuration vector \(S=(s_1,s_2,\dots,s_N)\) and the energy \[ E_N(S)=-\frac{1}{2}S\check{M}S^T-HS^T, \] where \(H\) is the magnetic field vector and \(\check{M}\) is a symmetric matrix with a zero diagonal \((M_{ii}=0).\) Along with this system the authors consider the statistical sum \(Z=\sum_S\exp[-\beta E_N(S)],\) where the sum runs over all states \(S\) and \(\beta\) is the inverse temperature. The goal of this paper is to develop an approximate method for computing the statistical sum of a spin system with an arbitrary long-range interaction in a non-uniform magnetic field.
