The paper describes some diagnostic tools to ascertain a given canonical invariant manifold (CIM) which is actually a slow attractive canonical invariant manifold (SACIM). Its application in combustion dynamics is also established. After performing local linear analysis, the authors design an algorithmic diagnostic tool for the identification of a SACIM. The diagnostic tool is successfully utilized in the three problems relevant to combustion. The first example discusses the slow invariant maifolds of reaction-diffusion systems wherein a modest enhancement of rotation renders a CIM to be an attractive CIM and ultimately a SACIM. The second example is concerned with the Zel'dovich reaction mechanism of nitric oxide formation in which rotation is irrelevant. It is shown that the two attractive CIMs are SACIMs. The third example is connected with the hydrogen-air combustion. For systems that evolve in a three-dimensional space, the normal stretching is found away from the CIM and is not attractive. The paper may be attractive for readers looking for conditions to determine uniform combustion.
