This paper is devoted to the study of the asymptotics of the spectrum of the boundary-value problem \[ \begin{aligned} -y'' & -\lambda \rho y=0, \\ y(0) & =y(1)=0,\end{aligned} \] where \(\rho\) is the generalized derivative of the Minkowski function, i.e., \(\rho=?'(x)\) (here \(?(x)\) stands for the ``question-mark function'' first defined by H. Minkowski, who introduced this notation). All the known results concerning the asymptotics of the eigenvalues of problem (1), (2) for the class of singular weights have already been obtained for affinely self-similar weights. See [\textit{A. A. Vladimirov} and the author, Sb. Math. 197, No. 11, 1569--1586 (2006; Zbl 1177.34039); translation from Mat. Sb. 197, No. 11, 13--30 (2006); Math. Notes 88, No. 5, 637--646 (2010; Zbl 1235.34228); translation from Mat. Zametki 88, No. 5, 662--672 (2010)]. The purpose of the present paper is to study other classes of self-similar weights, not affinely self-similar. One of the examples of such weights is the measure generated by the Minkowski function. In the paper, the Minkowski function is described and its properties needed for the study of the spectral problem (1), (2) with weight \(\rho=\rho_{M}\) are obtained. (In view of the strangeness of such a notation, the author, as a rule denotes the Minkowski function by \(P_{M}\) and the measure associated with it by \(\rho_{M}\) (i.e., \(\rho_{M}([\alpha,\beta))=P_{M}(\beta)-P_{M}(\alpha)\)). Moreover, the asymptotic formula for the behaviour of the eigenvalues for \(\rho=\rho_{M}\) is obtained and the asymptotic estimates of eigenvalues for the problem (1), (2) with the weight generated by the generalized Minkowski function are established.
