In this very interesting paper, the authors consider operators that are associated with a diffusion process in \(\Omega\) (where \(\Omega\) is an open bounded set of \(\mathbb R^N\)) which are invariant with respect to time reversal. Such operators are represented by a class of elliptic operators \(L\) that degenerate at the boundary of \(\Omega\) and possess a symmetrizing invariant measure \(\mu\). They prove that the elliptic equation \(\lambda u - L u = f\) has a unique weak solution for any \(\lambda >0\) and \(f\in L^2(\Omega, \mu)\). Lastly, under some additional regularity hypotheses, they are able to characterize the domain of \(L\).
