Let \[ {\mathbf{K}}(a_n/b_n):=b_0+\cfrac{{a_1}}{ {b_1}{+}\cfrac{{a_2}}{ {b_2}{+}\cfrac{{a_3}}{ {b_3}{+}{\ddots} }}} \] be a continued fraction, where \(a_n, b_n\) are generally independent variables. It is well known that a continued fraction is convergent if the sequence of its convergents \(\{f_n\}\) has a finite limit. The authors define the convergence of continued fractions in a different way as follows. A continued fraction converges and has a generally complex number \(z=r_0e^{i \phi_0}\) as its value if there are limits \[ \lim_{n \to \infty} \root{n}\of{\prod_{i=1}^n |P_i/Q_i|}=r_0, \quad \pi \lim_{n \to \infty} \frac{k_n}{n}=|\phi_0|, \] where \(P_i/Q_i\) are the values of the \(i\)th convergent from the collection of \(n\) ones and \(k_n\) is the number of negative convergents out of \(n\) ones. With this definition it follows immediately that a continued fraction with real elements converges to a complex value. A new summation method for divergent continued fractions is proposed. A method for solving infinite systems of linear algebraic equations is studied.
