In this work, the author studies the following first order symmetric systems \[ Jy'-B(t)y=\Delta(t)f(t), \tag{1} \] where \(t\in[a,b)\), \(a\) is a regular point and \(b\leq\infty\) is either a regular point or a singular point, \(B(t)\) and \(\Delta(t)\) are linear operators on \(H\oplus \hat{H}\oplus H\), \(H\) and \(\hat{H}\) are finite dimensional Hilbert spaces, such that \(B(t)=B^*(t)\), \(\Delta(t)\geq0,\) and \(J\) is an operator on \(H\oplus\hat{H}\oplus H\) such that \[ J=\left(\begin{matrix} 0 &0 &-I_{H}\\ 0 &iI_{\hat{H}} &0\\ I_{H} &0 &0\end{matrix}\right). \] The author assumes that the deficiency indices \(n_{\pm}(T_{\mathrm{min}})\) satisfy \[ n_+(T_{\mathrm{min}})\leq n_-(T_{\mathrm{min}}), \] where \(T_{\mathrm{min}}\) denotes the closed symmetric relation generated by (1). Then it is shown that there is a class of exit space selfadjoint extensions of \(T_{\mathrm{min}}\). Moreover, the author obtains a resolvent for an appropriate boundary value problem. Using the Weyl-Titchmarsh function, the author obtains an eigenfunction expansion. Finally, for an ordinary differential operator of odd order, an application is given.
