The authors study the existence of positive solutions for problems \[ -\text{div}([a(x) + u^q]\nabla u) + b(x) \frac{1}{u^\theta}|\nabla u|^2 = f(x) \;\text{ in } \;\Omega, \;u=0 \;\text{ on } \;\partial\Omega \] where \(\Omega\) is a bounded, open domain in \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N>2\). The coefficients \(a(x)\), \(b(x)\) are positive, bounded away from zero, and \(f \geq 0 \) not identically zero. The exponents \(q\) and \(\theta\) are positive, with \(\theta<1\). The technique is to approximate the problem above by a sequence of nonsingular problems, for the solutions of which strong convergence estimates are established.
