The authors develop an abstract perturbation method to obtain existence of a prescribed number of mixed states of nodal solutions of the following elliptic system \[ \begin{cases} -\Delta u_j +\lambda_j u_j=\mu_j u_j^3+\sum\limits_{i\not=j} \beta_{ij}u_i^2u_j, & x\in \Omega,\cr u_j=0 \qquad \text{ on } \partial \Omega, & j=1,\dots,k, \end{cases} \] where \(\Omega\) is a smooth bounded domain in \(\mathbb R^N\), \(N\leq 3\), \(k\geq 2\); \(\lambda_j >-\lambda_1(\Omega)\) for \(j=1, \dots, k,\) \(\lambda_1(\Omega)\) is the first eigenvalue of \(-\Delta\) with the Dirichlet boundary condition; \(\mu_j>0\), \(\beta_{ij}>0\) is small and \(\beta_{ij}=\beta_{ji}.\) By using such a method, it is obtained a positive solution for the above problem under the same conditions.
