Let \(A\) be a generalized Cartan matrix and \(F\) a field. Let \(St(A, F)\to G(A, F)\) be the canonical homomorphism between the Steinberg and Kac-Moody groups over \(F\) of type \(A\). The kernel of this map is denoted \(K_2(A, F)\). The aim of the present paper is to compute the group \(K_2(A, F)\) explicitly in the special case when \(A\) has hyperbolic type. Recall, that this means that \(A\) is neither finite nor affine but its every principal minor submatrix is of finite or affine type. The key ingredient in this computation is Morita-Rehmann theorem which describes \(K_2(A, F)\) as a certain quotient of abelian groups, see [\textit{J. Morita} and \textit{U. Rehmann}, Tohoku Math. J. (2) 42, No. 4, 537--560 (1990; Zbl 0701.19001)]. The paper also relies on the classification theorem for hyperbolic Cartan matrices.
