The authors prove that orientability issues of moduli spaces from gauge theories on Calabi-Yau manifolds and many results concerning them have their roots in spin geometry. In particular, the authors show that for any compact spin manifold \(X\) of real dimension \(8k\) with vanishing odd integer homology, and a Hermitian vector bundle \(E\rightarrow X\), the structure group \((\mathcal{L}_{\mathbb{C}},Q)\), where \(Q\) is a non-degenerate quadratic form, can be reduced to \(\mathrm{SO}(1,\mathbb{C})\). The results of the paper generalize and strengthen those results for Donaldson-Thomas theory on low dimensional Calabi-Yau manifolds.
