The author considers boundary value problems in bounded and unbounded domains for the following nonlinear elliptic problem \[ -\Delta u= \lambda |u|^{p-2}u-\mu|u|^{q-2}u, \leqno{(1)} \] where \(p>0\), \(q>0\), \(\lambda \geq 0\) and \(\mu \geq 0\), and investigates properties of these problems depending on the domain containing the exponents \((p, q)\). More precisely, the curves of critical exponents are defined which divide the plane of exponents into domains, and the solvability of problem \((1)\) is obtained in the case of equations with zero mass. Furthermore, using qualitative results on the types of stationary points of the fibering function, the author obtains results on the stability of stationary solutions and conditions for the existence of global solutions to parabolic equations.
