An RD-space (\(X, d, \mu\)) is a space of homogeneous type in sense of Coifman and Weiss where the quasi-metric \(d\) satisfies the regularity property and the measure \(\mu\) satisfies the reverse doubling property. The main purpose of this paper is to prove new characterizations of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces on RD-spaces by only half the usual smoothness and cancellation conditions on the approximation to the identity. The key tool to achieve the goal is to prove a new \(T1\) theorem for Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces on RD-spaces where the kernel of \(T\) satisfies only half the usual smoothness and cancellation conditions.
