Let \(G\) be a finite group. \(G\) is called an \(S^n\)-group if it has exactly \(n\) non-nilpotent subgroups. The classical result of Schmidt on solubility of \(S^1\) groups has been extended by \textit{M. Zarrin} [ibid. 99, No. 3, 201--206 (2012; Zbl 1272.20023)] as follows: \(S^n\) groups with \(n<22\) are soluble, and conjectured that insoluble \(S^{22}\) groups are either isomorphic to \(A_5\) or to \(\mathrm{SL}_2(5)\). The authors establish this conjecture. Let us call \(G\) an \(U^n\)-group if it has exactly \(n\) non-supersolvable subgroups. The classical result of Huppert on the solubility of \(U^1\) groups is extended by the authors as follows: \(U^n\) groups with \(n<6\) are soluble, and insoluble \(U^6\) groups are isomorphic to either \(A_5\) or \(\mathrm{SL}_2(5)\).
