Let \(X\) be a Tychonoff space, and \(C(X)\) the set of continuous real-valued functions on \(X\). The authors study the function space \((C(X),\tau_{\omega})\), where \(\tau_{\omega}\) is the \(m\)-topology. A local base of a function \(f\in C(X)\) in this topology is the family of all sets of the form \(W(\varepsilon)= \{g\in C(X): |f(x)-g(x)| < \varepsilon(x) \text{ for each } x\in X\}\), where \(\varepsilon : X \to \mathbb R\) is a strictly positive function. The obtained results concern mainly the cardinality properties of this space. It is proved, among other results, that the cellularity, density, Lindelöf number, extent, spread, weight, network weight, \(\pi\)-weight of \((C(X),\tau_{\omega})\) are all equal to the density of the space \(C(X)\) endowed with the topology of uniform convergence which is not smaller than the domination number \(dn(X)\) of \(X\) ( = cofinality of the set \((C(X), \leq)\)).
