The authors deal with an axially moving and vibrating viscoelastic beam. It is modeled by an initial-boundary value problem \[ \begin{aligned} &\rho(y_{tt}+2vy_{xt}+v^2y_{xx})+EIy_{xxxx}-EI\int_0^th(t-s)y_{xxxx}ds=0,\;x\in (0,1),\;t\geq 0,\\ &y(0,t)=y_x(0,t)=y_{xx}(1,t)=0,\;t\geq 0,\\ &\rho v^2y_{x}(1,t))+EIy_{xxx}(1,t)-EI\int_0^t h(t-s)y_{xxx}(1,s)ds=f(y(1,t)),\;t\geq 0,\\ &y(x,0)=y_0(x),\;y_t(x,0)=y_1(x),\;x\in (0,1), \end{aligned} \] where \(y\) is the transversal displacement of the beam and \(v\) is the constant axial speed. The associated energy has the form \[ \begin{aligned} &E(t)=\frac \rho 2\|y_t\|^2-\frac{\rho v^2}2\|y_x\|^2+\frac{EI}2\left(1-\int_0^t h(s)ds\right)\|y_{xx}\|^2+\\&\frac{EI}2\int_0^1(h\circ y_{xx})dx+F(y(1,t))\\& (h\circ u)(t)=\int_0^th(t-s)|u(t)-u(s)|^2\,ds,\;F(z)=\int_0^z f(s)\,ds. \end{aligned} \] The existence and uniqueness of a weak solution is verified using the Galerkin method. The main result of the paper is the exponential decay \[ E(t)\leq Ae^{-\gamma t},\;t\geq 0;\;A>0,\;\gamma >0, \] if \(\;\ell EI-2\rho v^2>0,\;\ell=1-\int_0^\infty h(s)ds\,>\,0.\)
