One of the key ingredients in the study of the image of \(\mathcal{D}\left(\mathbb{R}^n \right) \), the space of \(C^{\infty}\)-functions on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with compact support, under the Radon transform, and hence in the proof of the Paley-Wiener theorem for the Radon transform (see [\textit{S. Helgason}, Integral geometry and Radon transforms. Berlin: Springer (2011; Zbl 1210.53002)], Chapter I, Theorem 2.10), is Helgason's support Theorem (see op. cit., Chapter I, Theorem 2.6), which in its turn is a consequence of the following Lemma [loc. cit., Chapter I, Lemma 2.7]: Let \(f\) be a continuous function on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) and suppose that for each \(k \in \mathbb{N}\), \(\left\| x\right\|^k \left|f(x) \right| \) is bounded and suppose that \(f\) has surface integral \(0\) over every sphere \(S\) which encloses the unit ball. Then \(f(x) \equiv 0\) for \(\left\| x\right\| > 1\). The Lemma above, hence the support theorem, was extended to hyperbolic manifolds (see op. cit., Chapter III, Lemma 1.8, and Theorem 1.6). The aim of the paper under review is to describe the set of continuous functions, on rank one symmetric spaces, having zero integrals over all spheres containing a given ball or an annular domain. As a consequence, the authors prove some uniqueness theorems for functions with zero spherical means.
