This paper deals with a Burgers equation with nonlinear (Perona-Malik) diffusion arising from image processing and noise reduction. The authors show that smooth (no jump) traveling waves are stable with respect to small perturbations. Furthermore, if the initial perturbation decays algebraically as \(|x| \to +\infty\), then the solution converges algebraically in time (and uniformly in space) to the traveling wave. If the perturbation decays exponentially as \(|x| \to +\infty\), the convergence is also exponential in time.
