A non-Euclidean analogue of the well known kissing number problem for lattice spheres is introduced. Riemann surfaces corresponding to congruence subgroups of \(\text{PSL} (2,\mathbb{Z})\) are constructed with a surprisingly big number (the kissing number) of shortest closed geodesic (the systoles) proving thus again the geometric importance of the congruence subgroups of \(\text{PSL} (2,\mathbb{Z})\).
