Let \(\gamma_0\) be an arbitrary starshaped (with respect to the origin of \(\mathbb{R}^2)\) embedded closed curve parametrized by a smooth embedding \(X_0:S^1 \to\mathbb{R}^2\). The authors consider the initial value problem \[ {\partial X\over \partial t}=F(X)N,\;X(u,0)= X_0(u),\tag{*} \] where \(F:\mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{R}^+\) is a positive smooth decreasing function which satisfies \(\lim_{z\to-\infty} F(z)=+ \infty\), \({dF\over dz}<0\), \(K(u,t)\) is the curvature of the curve \(\gamma_t\) parametrized by \(X(.,t)\), and \(N(.,t)\) is the unit outward normal vectorfield to \(\gamma_t\). With polar coordinates, (*) is reformulated as \[ {\partial r\over \partial t}= {A\over r}F(K), \quad r(\theta,0) =r_0(\theta), \tag{**} \] where \(A= (r^2+({\partial r\over\partial \theta})^2)^{1/2}\). The authors prove the existence of a unique solution \(r\) to (**) such that \(\min_{\theta\in S^1}r (\theta,t) \to+\infty\) as \(t\to+\infty\). They also show that \(\gamma_t\) is starshaped with respect to the origin of \(\mathbb{R}^2\) and obtain some information on the asymptotic behavior of the curvature of \(\gamma_t\).
