In relational biology, the qualitative relations of systems are interpreted in terms of functional properties. In biological systems, these qualitative relations are studied by means of lattices. The first main representation led to lattices being double pseudo-Boolean algebras; therefore, two operations appeared: the Heyting arrow and the dual Heyting arrow, both of them relating non-comparable elements in terms of processes related with increasing and decreasing energies in the system. Special attention to such problems was given by Leguizamón (who introduced abstract relational concepts for biological and environmental categorical representations), Rosen, Wodger and Rashevsky. The notions of material physical nature and extrinsic energy -- as abstract relational concepts -- are defined. A third concept introduced - - identified by homogeneity, continuity, irreversibility -- is that of additional assignment number one. Also discussed is a relatively pseudo-complemented lattice. Conclusively, applications of relational concepts evidence that the biological structures have inherent qualitative relations to well-defined algebras, as well as to different algebraic varieties.
