    In this paper the author considers the embedding \[ H^ 2 \cap H^ 1_ 0 (\Omega) \to L^{{2N \over N-4}} (\Omega). \] The main aim of this paper is to find the largest constant \(K_ 1\) for which the inequality \[ \| u \|_{2N/(N-4)} \leq K_ 1^{-1/2} \| u \|_{2,2} \] is valid for all \(u \in H^ 2 \cap H^ 1_ 0 (\Omega)\). If \(\Omega \subset R^ N\), \(N>4\), is a bounded domain with a smooth boundary, we have a similar inequality with a constant \(K_ 0\) defined by the formula (1.2). From this the theorem follows directly. The infimum \(K_ 1\) is never achieved by a function \(u \in H^ 2 \cap H^ 1_ 0 (\Omega)\) when \(\Omega\) is bounded. The last part of this paper contains interesting lemmas. In my opinion the most important are lemmas B.1 and B.2 on the equation \(\Delta^ 2u = a(x)u\) in \({\mathcal D}'(\Omega)\).
