The structure-rank of a matrix is the largest rank of a submatrix which avoids a certain set of entries. The sets of entries are characterized for which [as \textit{M. Fiedler} ibid. 179, 119-127 (1993)] proved for the main diagonal) the structure-rank of a matrix equals that of its inverse.
