The matrix operator norm and the \(p\)-norm condition number of a matrix are quite useful in stability analysis and the bound estimates. It is well known that the \(p\)-norm condition number of a nonsingular matrix is always greater or equal to 1 for any \(p\in[1,\infty]\). This paper generalizes the results on the minimum condition number problem to a nonzero rectangular matrix. Based on the concepts of the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse and the \(p\)-norm non-decreasing matrix, conditions for a rectangular matrix to be isometric are given. The structure of \(p\)-norm isometric matrices and bounds on the condition number of an isometric matrix are discussed in detail. An numerical example is also given. However, the bound given in Example 5.1 of the paper is not very tight. This may suggest that bounds on the condition number when \(p\neq 2\) can be further improved.
