Some years ago the reviewer [Isr. J. Math. 31, 153-160 (1978; Zbl 0654.20019)] considered pairs of \((G,N)\) where \(1\neq N\triangleleft G\) and any two elements of the form \(x\), \(xy\) are conjugate whenever \(x\not\in N\), \(y\in N\). There is also a formulation in terms of characters. Using this there is a connection between these ideas and those of \textit{S. M. Gagola} [Pac. J. Math. 109, 363-385 (1983; Zbl 0536.20005)]. It is known from the work of the reviewer that a group \(G\) with such a pair is either a Frobenius group or has one of \(G/N\) or \(N\) a \(p\)-group. In this paper the author looks at the case where \(N\) is a \(p\)-group. He proves a number of interesting results using a variety of techniques. Just to pick out two such results. The author refers to such pairs a Camina pairs. Theorem A: Let \((G,N)\) be Camina pair with \(G\) solvable and \(N\) a \(p\)-group. Then (a) \(O_{p'}(G) = 1\) and (b) the \(p\)-length of \(G\) is less than three. Theorem 2.6: Suppose that \((G,N)\) is a Camina pair with \(G\) solvable and \((P,N)\) a Camina pair where \(P\) is a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of \(G\). Then \(N=\gamma_ r(P)\) for some \(r\) satisfying \(1<r\leq c\) where \(c\) is the nilpotency class of \(P\). If \(p\geq 3r-4\) then \(P\triangleleft G\).
