      Let \(F\) denote a class of continuous functions on \(\Pi_ d= [0,2\pi]^ d\). For \(1\leq p\leq\infty\), \(\xi=(\xi_ 1,\dots,\xi_ m)\) with \(\xi_ j\in\Pi_ d\) and \(\psi=(\psi_ 1,\dots,\psi_ m)\) with \(\psi_ j\in L_ p(\Pi_ d)\) put \[ \rho_ m(F,\xi,\psi)_ p:= \sup_{f\in F}\Biggl\| f-\sum_{j=1}^ m f(\xi_ j)\psi_ j \Biggr\|_ p \quad \text{ and } \quad \rho_ m(F)_ p:=\inf_{\xi,\psi} \rho_ m(F,\xi,\psi)_ p. \] The author considers the problem of determining sequences \((\xi^{(m)},\psi^{(m)})\) with \[ \rho_ m(F,\xi^{(m)},\psi^{(m)})_ p=O(\rho_ m(F)_ p). \] He gives solutions for several Sobolev-classes \(F\). The author uses estimates that will appear in his forthcoming book ``Approximations of periodic functions''.
