The authors try to solve the following problems: How do collocations perform when applied to boundary value problems with singularities and how can the results be improved? They suggest that some enriched shape functions (a supplementary term is added to the typical shape functions) should be used in the vicinity of the singularity (crack). A constraint equation relating the stress intensity factor to the nodal values should also be taken into account. Some numerical experiments on a mixed boundary value problem attached to the Laplace equation are carried out.
