The vertex operator realizations of level one representations of affine Lie algebras have proved to be very useful. Each vertex operator realization depends on the choice of a maximal Heisenberg subalgebra of the corresponding affine Lie algebra. It has been shown by Kac and Peterson and independently by Lepowsky that the inequivalent Heisenberg subalgebras of an affine Lie algebra are related to the conjugacy classes in the Weyl group of the underlying finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra. For example the homogeneous Heisenberg subalgebra is related to the conjugacy class of the identity and the principal Heisenberg subalgebra is related to the conjugacy class of the Coxeter element. In this paper the authors determine all inequivalent Heisenberg subalgebras of the orthogonal affine Lie algebra \(B_ n^{(1)}\) and construct vertex operator realizations of the level one integrable highest weight representations of this algebra corresponding to each inequivalent Heisenberg subalgebra.
