This work is a survey on algebraization problems for smooth submanifolds in projective space \(P^ n\). Conditions on differential invariants under which a smooth submanifold \(V\subset P^ n\) becomes algebraic (or lies in an algebraic manifold) are called algebraizability conditions. The author collects many theorems of that kind, starting from the Abel theorem, Lie and Scheffer's results, degenerate Monge manifolds. Some generalizations of original results obtained by \textit{J. A. Wood} [Duke Math. J. 51, 235-237 (1984; Zbl 0584.14021)], \textit{V. V. Goldberg} [Theory of multicodimensional \((n+1)\)-webs (1988; Zbl 0668.53001)] and the author [Sov. Math., Dokl. 28, 507-509 (1983); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 272, 1289-1291 (1983; Zbl 0547.53006)] are given. Proofs are simplified. Example of results: Theorem 1. The hypersurfaces \(V_ 1,\ldots,V_ d\) of the space \(P^{r+1}\) lie in the same algebraic hypersurface of degree \(d\) if and only if for any straight line lying in a certain region \(U\subset G(1,r+1)\) the condition \(\sum_ \alpha b(x_ \alpha)=0\) holds \(\bigl(b(x_ \alpha)\) denotes the second fundamental form of \(V_ \alpha\) in a point \(x_ \alpha\bigr)\).
