The aim of this paper is to extend some approximation results for locally integrable functions on the real line, due to L. Modica and S. Mortola, to sequences obtained not only using periodic functions, as Modica and Mortola did. These new results are extended also to locally integrable functions defined on smooth open subsets of \(\mathbb{R}^ n\).
