This massive paper considers the two-dimensional dam problem in a rather general geometry. The porous medium crossed by the flow is confirmed from below by an impervious surface, while the rest of the boundary, when in contact with water, is ``leaky'', i.e. the flux is a prescribed function of the jump of the pressure accross the boundary. Such a condition is imposed on the surface bounding possible pools and on the seepage surface. The problem is reformulated in a weak form and existence of a weak solution is proved. There some regularity property is obtained together with some result on the qualitative behaviour of the solution. The paper is concluded by the study of some example and remarks about uniqueness.
